Ilford HP5 Review

Okay guys I've been shooting with the ilford HP5 this week and thought i would start a film review as part of my blog. Let me start by saying this the HP5 is one of the best black and white film I've used. The reason for me saying this is because of the speeds this film offers. Its native asa is set at 400 but ilford say that you can push it up to 1600 asa. I personally have push this film to 3200 asa, and still love the look the film gives me.

Lets say you went out shooting for the day like i normally do. Then night finds you still out shooting, This is one of those films you can just boost the asa up to meet your needs. at the bottom are some of the images taken at 400, 1600, and 3200. I skid 800 just to show from the base line of the film to the high end, so you can judge for yourselves.

Now this first set was shot at 400, and all photos was taking with a canon ae1 and a 50mm 1.8. I developed it at home using ilfosol 3 and other ilford products.

Here is the 1600 photos from a night of pool.

Now 3200.  You can see a bit more grain, but i still think these are some very usable images.

Leave a comment and let me know what you thing about about this film, and if you would like to try this film I post a link at the bottom of the page.
